We Are Called to Worship & Reverence God Almighty in Spirit & in Truth

According to John 4:23-24 God is seeking worshipers who will worship Him in Spirit & in Truth.

John 4:23-24 Amplified Bible (AMP)

23 A time will come, however, indeed it is already here, when the true (genuine) worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth (reality); for the Father is seeking just such people as these as His worshipers.

24 God is a Spirit (a spiritual Being) and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth (reality).

Then in Hebrews 12:28-29 it tells us we need to serve & worship God acceptably and with reverence….

Hebrews 12:28-29 New King James Version (NKJV)

28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptablywithreverence and godly fear.

29 For our God is a consuming fire.

Hebrews 12:28-29 New International Version (NIV)

28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe,

29 for our “God is a consuming fire.”

We may think that what we are doing is right but we as Christians need to understand and know what God truly wants from us. It requires getting into His Word and meditating on what it has to say. God’s Word has the final say…the final authority. What is worship? What does it mean to reverence God? Sometimes it helps to look into the deeper meaning of the words we read.

I would say that worship … true worship starts in our heart… it comes from knowing who we are in Him, from having received forgiveness of our sins through the sacrifice of His Son Christ Jesus, trusting His love for us, and most of all understanding that HE ALONE deserves ALL glory, honor, & praise simply for who HE IS.

When we choose to worship God with all our heart we find ourselves drawing so much closer to Him… experiencing His presence & love in amazing ways. We hear from Him. He heals us. Our spirit is edified. So much occurs when we worship God. Mountains move…distractions cease…breakthrus happen…we encounter Him on a greater level when we get lost in worship.

Although we do benefit from worshiping God we have to remember that it really isn’t about pleasing ourselves & what we get from it. It’s what we bring from our heart to His. Worship is an offering, it’s thanksgiving, it’s showing Him respect & honor. He created us for His pleasure…He did not create us to be worshiped or to worship idols or false Gods..He created us to know Him, to honor Him, to reflect His character, His love, & to please Him. One of our goals in life should be to learn what He wants from us and then let our lives reflect it.

“And try to learn [in your experience] what is pleasing to the Lord [let your lives be constant proofs of what is most acceptable to Him].” Ephesians 5:10 (AMP)

Let us examine our heart today. Let’s get a fresh start today. Leave our old self & ways we have worshiped behind. Let us allow God to transform our hearts into true worshipers that are pleasing to Him.

Father God, we desire our worship to show you the reverence YOU ALONE deserve… worship that is acceptable & pleasing to you. Forgive us for being selfish and making it about ourselves and not You. Please show us what You desire and help us to honor you in this area of our relationship with you. Let our heart & spirit be sensitive to the transforming power of the Holy Spirit that we may become true worshipers. May our hearts reflect true love, reverence, praise, and worship for you always because YOU ALONE ARE WORTHY.

In the Mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
